Kalngkurr
Wellness Space
A welcoming, community-based access point on Mornington Island, connecting individuals with clinical services to strenghten and support local care.
The Kalngkurr Wellness space helps to connect individuals with First Nations clinical psychologists, coordinating services, and fostering collaboration between providers to strengthen local care and integration.
The Kalngkurr Wellness space was established on 16 March to serve as a dedicated access point for community members on Mornington Island.
Its primary objective is to create a welcoming environment where individuals can connect with First Nations clinical psychologists, arrange formal consultations, schedule home visits, or simply learn more about available services.
Since its establishment, the space has facilitated new partnerships and working relationships between hospital and Ambulance services and community-based providers. These collaborations have strengthened shared care arrangements and promoted connections with community-based services, encouraging individuals and families to engage with the Kalngkurr Wellness space. To support the ongoing operation of the Kalngkurr Wellness space, NACCHS has applied to Queensland Health seeking funding for the coordinator’s position.
Where is the Kalngkurr Wellness Space?
Operating from 9am to 12noon, five days a week, the space is located within a room at the Gidgee Healing clinic and opens to a courtyard adjacent to the Ngarnal Community Health building.
Wellness Space Coordinator
NACCHS has appointed a coordinator (Cassie Daniels) who actively promotes the Kalngkurr Wellness Space to the community. The coordinator also positions the space as a hub for visiting service providers to meet, share information, and collaborate. This collaborative approach aims to enhance the responsiveness of local services and foster integration across providers.
